Peat Moss Substrates
Blond or sphagnum peat is derived from the slow decomposition of sphagnum
moss which accumulates in
bogs
Bogs are drained and the material is mechanically harvested whereafter it is screened, graded and baled for storage or shipping
The final product referred to as blond peat, is used as a main ingredient in many substrates since it has many of the characteristics of an ideal growing medium such as:
- Porous and well drained, yet retentive of sufficient moisture
- Low in soluble salts, but with an adequate exchange capacity to retain and supply the necessary nutrients to plants
- Can be standardized and uniform with each batch
- Free from harmful soil pests and pathogenic organisms
- Biologically, structurally and chemically stable

Forest Gold
From wood chip to substrate…
Wood chips from softwood trees are heated to high temperatures and spun into well-defined fibres using high pressure steam – a process that ensures the material is free from weeds, diseases and harmful organisms. The fibres are then carefully mixed with peat. This is what we call Forest Gold.
Forest Gold improves the physical characteristics of a substrate. Pindstrup has carried out numerous trials with high-end growers around the world which have shown a number of key benefits for plants:
- Consistent quality with structural stability

- Improved air/water ratio and drainage
- Improved water distribution and dry surface
- Lightweight substrate
Due to the benefits, Forest Gold is added to all our general potting mixes and to most crop-specific mixes
